The City of West Allis Announces a Vision for the Future Using BP Logix Process Director
West Allis deploys Process Director to Automate Business Processes and Enhance Communication through Social Media

San Diego, CA – December 08, 2014 — BP Logix, a provider of BPM solutions for rapid workflow app development, today announced that Process Director has been selected to automate and streamline the processes that manage the government of West Allis, Wisconsin. The selection of a BPM tool forms the foundation of its goal of facilitating a more effective and efficient solution to running the City. That vision incorporates a plan that embraces new business development, attracts a younger demographic and enables government officials to communicate with residents at a more collaborative and social level.

A progressive and forward-looking city, operating under a Mayor and Town Council, the City of West Allis is the second largest city in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. At the forefront of redevelopment for more than 20 years, West Allis has been recognized for revitalizing its east side industrial corridor, embracing new businesses including Toshiba, C&H Distributors and Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield to its community – and welcoming others such as Brookdale Senior Living going forward.

An IT staff of nine supports the 530 employees who form the infrastructure of the city and serve a community of 60,000 residents. As the City runs on licenses, permits, work orders, building inspections, and requests for services, the Mayor and Council are working closely with its IT team to streamline the business and permit process. Their goal is to attract new businesses and facilitate the expansion of those currently doing business in West Allis. Included in that goal is making the process of applying for and securing building permits and applications more efficient, streamlined and collaborative.

West Allis City management also needed to ensure that all information flows between departments — and that communication is transparent. Any individual involved in any process needs to be able to determine the status of pending requests (permits and applications, for example) and participate in communication about those requests. Increased communication, via social media, text and email, will streamline communication between business, contractors and citizens. A more open workflow will increase accountability, with real-time access to information being a critical component to achieving this goal.

With more than 14,000 building inspections per year currently conducted, the Clerk’s Office handles licenses ranging from animal, liquor and carnival permits to truck rentals, bartending licenses and Christmas tree lots. By deploying a workflow and BPM solution, the City can eliminate duplication, enhance information sharing across departments and leverage online communication and social media to reach business owners and constituents.

According to Jim Jandovitz, Director of Information Technology for West Allis, “The proper use of technology can facilitate our goal — and validate the success of these initiatives. In Phase I we will be revising recruitment, hiring, onboarding, employee orientation, drug testing and other HR processes. We will also begin identifying processes that streamline communication involving Building Code Violations, New Business Applications and Dog Licensing (online pet registration). Phase II will then incorporate new business application processes, address building permits, and more integration into existing systems.” “BP Logix appreciates the vision that the City of West Allis has articulated — and knows that the benefits include significant cost and time savings, as well as standardizing its processes and guidelines,” stated Jay O’Brien, BP Logix CEO. “Ensuring consistency between all online applications while enhancing communication and collaboration with residents and business owners are benefits that will bring about transparency that cities across the country will embrace as well,” he concluded.
